HVAC Repair in Vance

Vance is best known as home to the Mercedes-Benz plant along I-20/59, and the growth that came with it shows up in the neighborhoods. Subdivisions have filled in on what used to be open land, small shops and offices have gone up near the interstate, and the older rural houses that were here first still sit on their larger lots off the county roads.

We repair heating and air systems in Vance homes and small commercial buildings: central AC, heat pumps, furnaces, air handlers and the thermostats that run them. We diagnose the problem, show you what we found and quote the repair in writing. If the honest answer is that a repair is not worth it, we say that too.

What we fix around Vance

In the subdivisions, most calls are no-cool calls on builder-grade equipment: capacitors that bulged and quit, contactors burned from constant cycling, condenser fan motors that hum without turning, and refrigerant leaks at the indoor coil. Heat pumps are common here, so we see the winter side of the same equipment too, with defrost problems, reversing valves stuck in one mode, and backup heat strips carrying the load and running up the bill.

On the commercial side, the work is usually rooftop or pad-mounted package units on small buildings, plus split systems in offices and storefronts. We handle shops and small offices along the interstate and schedule around business hours when we can, so the work does not shut down a front counter on a busy afternoon.

The subdivisions and their builder units

A lot of the newer Vance homes went up in a short stretch of years, and the builders put in equipment at the lowest price they could find. Builder-grade units are not bad, but they are built to a price, and they tend to start failing around the same age. That is why one street can have several houses calling about the same kind of problem in the same summer.

When one of those units has a small failure, we fix it. When it has a big one, like a leaking coil or a compressor that will not start, we price the repair and the replacement side by side. Every repair is quoted in writing after the diagnosis and before any part is ordered, and if a repair costs close to what a new system would, we say so. If you lean toward a new system, we can work up a price on new equipment for the house and size it to the home instead of copying the label on the old unit.

The older homes in the area have their own patterns: ductwork added after the house was built, crawlspace ducts that sweat, and outdoor units tucked against the house where leaves and pollen pile up.

Summer run time out here

From late May into September, an air conditioner in Vance runs most of the day, and the humidity makes it work even harder. A big part of its job is pulling water out of the air. If the condensate drain clogs, the float switch shuts the system off; if the system short-cycles, the house ends up cool and sticky at the same time. New construction is tight, which helps, but a unit that is oversized for a tight house will short-cycle and leave moisture behind.

We check how long the system runs, how cold the coil gets, how much air is moving and whether the drain is flowing. Those four numbers tell us more than any guess, and they keep us from selling you a part the system does not need. A clean filter every month or two through the summer, and an outdoor unit kept clear of mulch and grass clippings, go a long way in a newer house too. We also run up the road to Brookwood and the older homes there, where the same heat and humidity hit a different kind of house.

Services we bring out here

Request a Vance repair

Fill out the form with what the system is doing, whether it is a home or a business, and roughly how old the equipment is. If you can read the model number off the data plate on the outdoor unit, type it into the form; it tells us the model and age before we pull in the driveway. For commercial buildings, let us know the best hours to get on site and whether anyone needs to unlock a roof hatch or mechanical room. We work Monday through Saturday, 7am to 6pm, and answer every message the same day.
